When it comes to holidaying in style and pushing the boat out, footballers really know how to do
it professionally. They choose the best hotels and the perfect women, and pick their destination as
carefully as they pick their corners. With an endless amount of money at their disposal they can do
just about anything they like on holiday; and they usually do. So where exactly are these places?
One of the most popular holiday destinations for those who are lucky enough to be a part of
the football world is Spain’s Coast Blanca. Its expansive white sandy beaches are some of the
most amazing in Europe and it can certainly boast a climate to match. With over 150 miles of
Mediterranean coastline it is one of the favourite choices for footballers eager to catch some heat
and sun. Of course footballers are not just looking to top up their tans whilst on holiday but really
want to let their hair down; much to the delight, or dismay, of onlookers and fellow holiday makers.
Because of this, they usually choose to stay in the busy and beautiful high rise resort of Benidorm,
which attracts over 5 million tourists every year. Bars, restaurants and nightclubs are abundant
and offer countless ways for holidaying footballers and their friends to get up to some real mischief
before its back to their rigorous training regimes.
Another place where it is quite easy to spot a footballer or two is the Canary Island’s Lanzarote.
With stunning beaches and even more stunning hotels are aplenty, so it is easy to see why
footballers flock there. Lanzarote can boast some spectacular volcanic lunarscapes and breathtaking
views, but it is perhaps safe to assume that these are not the only reasons that footballers love to
sun themselves on its shores. Lanzarote is famed for its bustling nightlife and offers something for
everyone’s tastes. Footballer’s can regularly be seen dancing in any of its nightclubs that get going
late and have revellers partying till the wee hours of the morning.
For those footballers who actually do want to enjoy a quiet, relaxing holiday (yes there are actually a
few of them around) Lipsi is seen as the perfect destination. This Greek island is ideal for footballers
who want to discover secluded, unspoilt beaches and get away from the hoards of screaming fans
that usually surround them, both on and off the pitch. Lipsi offers several bars and restaurants but
the nightlife is slow, making it an idyllic place to unwind.
Wherever footballers choose to holiday, they can be sure that their die-hard fans, and those of
us that simply cannot get enough football gossip, are scrutinising their off-pitch antics even more
closely than their on-pitch antics. From the Costa Blanca to Lanzarote to Lipsi, footballers can be
seen sipping cocktails and soaking up the sun on many a European shoreline. So as long as they
return to our shores before the season starts, we are more than happy to watch them at play.
